9-11 Memories

Today is probably a day that none of us will ever forget, one of the saddest days in history. And like me, I'm sure the rest of you remember how you spent that day. I remember just waking up and turning on the news right after the jet had hit the first building. I couldn't even wake up enough to grasp what was really happening. And then, the horrible events of that day kept unfolding. At the time, I had two stores and had to make the decision to open or close them. And we all know that Country Roads never closes, just three times a year. I made the decision to close the stores. That afternoon my kids and friends gathered over at my house. The news was on and it all was so hard to understand, to grasp. I don't think any of us ever thought something like that would happen in the United States. Never being overly political, I naively thought the United States had no enemies that would do something like what happened on that horrible day. Needless to say, I learned a great deal that day and in the years that followed. As we all sat together that afternoon glued to the tv, there was one bright spot in the day. My friend Darcy had found this kitten that she was totally in love with but couldn't keep it. I already had too many cats, but on that day, I made the decision to include, "Sparky" pictures above, in my cat family. We needed a little joy that day after the horrible events of that day unfolded. I watched Joe Bidden read a poem this morning at the memorial. Funny how something that seemed so very long ago, comes back so quickly to really tug at your heart. My thoughts and prayers today are with all those thousands of families that lost those they loved.

I work at a fire department. Someone called and said go look on TV that the tower had been hit. We all watched, not being able to comprehend in a way. Guessing maybe the pilot had a heart attack or something. Then the second one hit. Such a creep feeling that we had been attacked, on our own land. The after pictures were awful and heartbreaking. Everyone will remember this like you remember Kennedy being shot.

Sitting there watching as it all unfolded with Diane Sawyer and Charlie Gibson, who didn't know either...then seeing the second plane...then the collapses...it was just too surreal. I couldn't believe what was happening nor could I leave the TV. It forever changed me and the way I live life.
