What's Blooming?

I love this time of year in my garden. And how I so wish I had a big old plot of land to garden on! But as I tell everyone, I'm thankful to have the square that my house sits on that has given me a yard to at least have a small garden which I love. The white rosebush below is my all time favorite. The roses are both beautiful and fragrant, I couldn't ask for more. I'm amazed how everything seems to be blooming all at once. Here are just a few pictures of my favorite "blooms"!

I'm still having a love affair with my hollyhocks. I don't know what it is about them, but I love the  way they pop up each year. Sadly, this year I lost a few, but my hopes are to plant some more for next year in different colors. And of course my garden isn't complete without my favorite "garden heart" above. This week I'm linking up with Fish Tale Cottage for "Cottage Flora Thursday"! It's my first visit here. Be sure to stop by and check out all the beautiful gardens! Have a great Thursday.

White Wednesday at CR

With the 4th of July less than a week away, I thought the old pond boat above really captured that holiday feeling of the 4th and of Summer!  They use to race these old boats on ponds and lakes. I have this imagine of a little boy standing on a lake with his boat, while picnic tables are decorated and BBQ's are cooking! Anyway, here are a few other "White Wednesday" photos that caught my eye at Country Roads!

Please take the time to stop by Kathleen's blog and wish her a happy "White Wednesday"! I hope you all have a wonderful holiday week-end and have some time just relaxing and hanging out with friends and family. Country Roads will be open on both Saturday and Sunday, but closed on Monday for the 4th of July! The store is packed right now for your summer decorating. Hope to see many of you over the week-end! Take care.

Great Stuff!

I've posted some of Shawn and Jennie's stuff before. They've been with us for a couple of months, and I'm just blown away not only by their merchandise, but how reasonably priced it is. What I love even more is that it's not "recycled" stuff. They don't purchase anything out here in CA. They travel the good ole' USA and have pickers that know exactly what they are looking for. My first love has always been the old, country primitives. There is just something special about those pieces. Maybe because these old pieces, the good old country primitives, travel with their own stories to tell. I thought instead of just posting a bunch of Shawn & Jennie's pictures, I would put them in a little slide show for you. In case you are wondering about the song that is playing in the background, it is by Amos Lee. I recently discovered his music and just love it!

And all of you know, I'm STILL working on trying to get Country Roads online so you can shop from wherever you like! Time, if I can just pick up a little bit of it, maybe I could get that done. For now though, if you see something you just have to have? Please, pick up that phone and give us a call at
714.532.3041
You can pay for it over the phone, and we will hang on to it until you can pick it up! Take care.

Another Milestone

We were "extremely" busy at Country Roads yesterday. But it doesn't matter how busy we are when in comes time to celebrate one of our little CR kids birthdays. We met at Hart Park in Old Towne Orange. For those of you not familiar with the area, it is an historic area established in CA in the late 1800's. Just look at the beautiful tree above as Riley and Morgan explore. This time, the birthday party was for Josalyn. She is now six years old and I'm still in awe of the passage of time when it comes to our little ones. I've known Josalyn since she was born. Just look at her little face below. And once she learned to talk, she has never stopped since ;0) She's a bright little girl with a very bright future ahead. Here are a few pic's of Josalyn's magical day!

And "props" to Yesi for including whistles in all the party bags! There were a lot of kids, all blowing whistles and I have to admit, even after being so busy at "the store", it was pretty funny. Happy Birthday Josalyn! We love you!!

Pictures That Need No Words!

The week-end has arrived! Got plans? Whether the answer is yes or no, I'm hoping you find some time to stop by and see us here at Country Roads. I promise you, there is definitely something for everyone!

There is a lot of red, white, and blue popping up at CR in nontraditional ways. One of the reasons many reasons I love my Country Roads family. They always find creative ways to display "outside of the box"! They are truly the best. Hope you find some time to stop by and see us this week-end!

Our Johnnye Merle Gardens or Where I Go Hide!

I love to step out our back doors at Country Roads into our garden! It's filled not only with Johnnye Merle plants, that include a wide variety of plants including succulents, Annie's Annuals, and many more, but it's just a really cool little place to visit. It was built on top of asphalt about 18 or 19 years ago. If I'm having one of "those" days, I leave the counter with the promise of, "I'll be right back", then head out the back door to the garden. It is a great place to gather your thoughts, to breathe, and to forget what one of your customers may have just said to you. And as I always say, it is also a place filled with memories for me. I took some random pictures the other day when I was out there for a little escape from reality!

I've also filled my gardens at home with so many plants from Johnnye Merle's. It's nice to find plants that are different than what you find everywhere else. Next time you come to shop with us, I hope you  remember to go visit "the garden", it is pretty spectacular!  Take care.
