I Love Rock n' Roll

I love music, all kinds, including rock n' roll. Have you ever noticed there just aren't that many famous female drummers? They are out there, but they never get the recognition like the guys do. You've got Shelia E above with Mo'Nique helping her out on the drums. Then there is Jen Lowe who plays in Jason Marz's band. There use to me an old saying that if girls played the drums it was so "unlady" like! Please!! You have to remember Meg White with the White Stripes. If you love music, how can you forget her? It's funny, I was reading somewhere that women in Iran are banned from playing drums. Just another reason to be proud to be an American. The other day, I discovered who just may possibly me the next famous chick drummer! Yes that is right.
One of my grandbabies will become rich and famous and be able to take care of her old Gramma while drumming away to one of my favorite songs by Joan Jett! I can hear it now in the distance. . .
I love rock 'n' roll
So put another dime in the jukebox, baby

I love rock 'n' roll
So come and take your time and dance with me!

I must admit, I am happy though that she won't be practicing at my house! Rock on Riley!

Now, she has to practice for a receptive audience...wouldn't that be you?
I always loved Karen Carpenter...even though she used the drums as a shield. I know, I know...not really rock and roll!

I grew up on the cusp of the 'girls can't do that' attitude and I think that's what made me so fiercely independent. Back in the 70's when I was a teen I played hockey. Since we were girls it wasn't taken seriously so we didn't get to use the arena. Instead we used the outdoor rink and froze our butts off.

So today when a little girl like Riley thinks she can be be whatever she wants to be I say 'You go girl!'.

I was a drummer in school. I was in the Orchestra, because gymastics and cheerleading didn't allow me in the band. I like to brag that I was the head drummer when i was a senior.

Did Gramma buy Riley those drums for Christmas??? That would be such sweet revenge if you did! Lurch and I have threatened to do that so many times. Madi asked us for a drum set for her birthday, but we decided we can't do that after Tango came along...they don't need anymore noise! Go, Riley, go!

I love Mo'Nique! She is so dang funny!

OMG we had bought my daughter a little drum set when she was about 3 or so and she hated "making noise" with it. It kind of scared her or something. She was a quiet little girl. The quietness somehow disappeared along the way though.

dont forget "HEART", no drums, but good girl band.
