My Dogs Are Barkin'

Remember that stupid old saying, "my dogs are a barkin" in regards to your feet being sore. My feet ARE sore, and my legs, well they are howling!! We have been very busy at "the store"! And you are hearing no verbal complaints from me, so my legs and feet can shut up for a bit. I have been working a lot, as you can see Morgan helping me last night burn some midnight oil! Just full of those dumbass sayings this morning, aren't I? The "Marvelous Marcela" took on some more space. That chair has definitely been calling my name the past few days. What I love about Marcela is that she mixes vintage with some of her really cool creations! These aren't the best pictures, and will get some better ones up soon. Let's remember, I'm still using that ever so special cheap display camera that I bought at Target a few weeks ago. Sometimes it's nice to me, others days, well, I need to THROW it in my pool! One thing I really enjoy about some of our very special customers is all their knowledge. And they aren't at all hesitant about sharing. Some guy yesterday wanted me to buy a box full of his dead Granny's dishes. I made the mistake of telling him, "I really don't know much about that type of glass". He snapped back at me, "it's not glass, it's CHINA"! Well, bless his little heart! Yesi & I just laughed. The public is fun if you just go with it. Yesterday, I also was blessed to have one of our customers go on, and on, and on and never stopping to take a breath about how she just can't stand this industrial stuff. What are people thinking? I'm always polite because I really do enjoy people. You have to in this business, and you have to be able to listen. I will admit, listening isn't always the easiest thing to do at times. But none the less, I do respect my customers and hey, everyone wants to be heard in life. I told the customer that I really like the industrial look. One thing I like about it is that is the perfect example of recycling! And there are so many uses for these things. I do have to laugh at the term, "French Industrial". Somehow in this business, "French" adds value to things ;0} With that said, I'm working again today! Yes, my fourth day in a row which I usually don't do. But I got a good trade out of the deal. I'm off this coming "BSC" Sunday! Don't worry though, I will have a "guest writer" doing my post that day. My Monday's wouldn't be complete without a BSC Sunday story or two to share! The sun is shining today, feels like Spring, and I'm looking forward to going to "the store". We have had many out of state customers that have been awesome! Maybe our "locals" should take a lesson!

Recycling Our Stuff

The one thing I love about this business, about "the store" is that it makes recycling fun. I get to change things out in my house whenever a feel like it. I've been kind of tired of the pillows on my glider in my bedroom. And speaking of gliders, I LOVE this glider. It is one of the old vintage ones that usually you find "outside", not in a bedroom. I added some cushions to it, and it is so very comfortable. I always like to rock my little grandbabies on it. It's great for getting them to fall asleep! I've been getting kind of tired of the starfish pillows for awhile now. I was time for a change so, are going to "the store" (aka Country Roads) to be sold. I bought these two pillows over the week-end. It was love at first sight! I bought them from the "Marvelous Marcela", that is so talented and creative AND her prices are so very reasonable. You for sure need to stop by and see what she has got. I don't think you will walk away empty handed! I've also been having a book crisis at home. A bookcase got ripped out, my boy Bryce now has a baby girl that is almost one and needed more room. And, I just have way too many design and decorating books anyway. I was trying to go through them the other night to pick out a few I wanted to keep. The rest of the books went to "the store" to be sold to support my habit, my addition, to design and decorating type books. They are all for sale for only $8.00! At first I thought I would price them individually and realized "why" would I make myself have even more work to do? So, there is my library up for sale, which actually is displayed on Marcela's awesome church pew which is priced very reasonably. It's got the great old white chippy paint on it. And don't forget, we have a BIG Easter sale this Sunday at "the store" from 10am to 4pm! Hope to see you there.

Vintage Recycling for Baby's Nursery!

 

Yesterday the couple, pictured above, came into Country Roads from Rose Bowl. They had told Brande they were expecting their first child, a boy, within a week but the mommy-to-be put it this way,"he could come today and I'd be reeeally happy"! Waiting for that baby at the end of a pregnancy is always the longest. This couple was originally were from Seattle and had gone to Rose Bowl to search for something to make a old books to make a bookshelf or shelving for the nursery. They said they couldn't find anything reasonably priced and sort of stumbled upon Old Towne Orange. Of course I'm hoping that "stumbling" came from the full back page color ad that Country Roads has in RG Cannings newspaper at the Rose
Bowl! Brande and the couple were talking about how cool it was to not only put together something that would look good and different, but at the same time they were recyclying as well by NOT using new wood. Their choice had been vintage boxes that are not only "different" but very affordable. Brande and Yesi gave them some ideas about how they could add to what they were buying with some different types of small boxes to add detail. What a great way to bring a new life into the world by introducing them to antiques and recyclying at an early age!
