My Office Assistants

Do you ever wonder if cats are smarter than people? I've got four cats that are always hanging around my desk when I'm trying to work in my office. Here you see Fluffy, making a quick phone call. Even Riley now knows where the "end call" button is when she is talking to her mom on my iphone, pretty funny I must say! And Fluffy is quickly learning as well. I've always been a cat lover, all rescues, the only way I would have it. Two of my cats fight constantly for my attention. Fluffy, who is pictured above, is one and the other is Leonard who is now famous in the blog world. The other two sometimes try to jockey for a position by the keyboard or in front of the monitor, but Makena and Kona are more laid back, they have the "aloha spirit". My cats at times, have stepped on the keyboard and deleted my work, or they get in a "slapfest" over who can sit the nearest to me. It makes me crazy at times, thats when I reach for the AirDust, you know the stuff you spray on your computer to clean it. Works great to clear out all the feline office assistants! I get so bummed these days when I hear about all the animals being surrendered to the shelters and then you have all those people out there that refuse to have their pets spayed or neutered. Please, there are low cost vets around, and we already have our shelters filled with loving cats and dogs that need homes. Think about being one of those good souls and go rescue a cat or a dog. They make the best pets ever, and fill in great as office assistants as well.

Gay Oscar

A few weeks back I posted a blog about one our local shelters having a pet adoption day. Thanks to Mary Strickley that forwarded me the information. Bill & Cindy Finch are dealers in my store and awesome people and pet lovers as well. I featured the first dog they rescued a few weeks ago. Then this past week or so, they went back and rescued Oscar, who I call Gay Oscar because he is in love with one of their dogs at home Moses, and has a few "issues" he needs to work out in that area. The owners of Oscar surrendered him to the shelter because, get this, he pooped in the house! That's right, don't train your pets, they poop in your house, so you just dump them at the shelter! Thanks to Bill and Cindy, Oscar now as a loving home. He had been to the vet the day of his photo above and had some eye drops put in his eyes, so that is why he looks a little wiped out. This little guy is a loving, sweet, sweet, dog. Sometimes I wish I could dump some of the people I come across in life in the damn dog pound till they rot. To this day, I will always remember that song from the Billy Jack movie, "bless the beast and the children, they have no voice, they have no choice"!

Make a Difference, Rescue a Dog or Cat

This is my dog Sally, the wonder dog as I call her among other names. She really doesn't do anything she supposed to do, she never did and she never will I suppose. I rescued her about eight or nine years ago from the shelter. Sally probably had been abused and would cower if she got in trouble, yelled at, or disciplined. Needless to say, I felt bad for her so that is why she is such a "free spirit"! She hates the squirrels that taunt her and loves to sit by the pool with me in "her" lounge chair, as I sit in my chair with my headphones and ipod. I love my dog, even though she makes me crazy and has lots of personal "dog issues". I also have eight cats, yes, I hate to say that, but at one time or another, they were ALL in need of a home. Now when there is a cat or kitten that needs a home, I start asking around at Country Roads to find it a home. What really bothers me most is all the people that have lost their homes due to foreclosures and they have to move into an apartment and pets aren't allowed! Our shelters are now OVERFLOWING with great cats, kittens and dogs and puppies. So, please, when you are ready for your next pet, give the shelter a try, you will be glad you did, really! These pets somehow know that you saved them and will reward you with so much love over and over. And hey, so dogs like Sally aren't perfect, they still love you!
