Fun at Assisted Living!

These pictures were taken back in November of 2006. My mom had just died a month or two before and my dad was left alone in that fun lovin' joyful assisted living place. That's my sister on the left with Riley. My dad had never held Riley, and actually hadn't smiled much since my mom died. That's my oldest daughter, Brande, with Riley. Great-grandpa still wasn't sure he was ready to hold his first great-grandbaby! There we go, a "Kodak Moment", my dad and my little Riley! It warmed my heart. All my dad kept saying was, "your mom would have loved this little baby". I so wish I would have had a just one photo of my mom and dad with Riley but sometimes life doesn't work out that way and at least I have the photo of Riley and my dad. Sadly, my dad passed away a few months later on Valentine's Day. We knew he wanted to just "let go" and be with the love of his life for more than 58 years, my mom!

My Dad & WWII

This is my dad, as an enlisted guy during WWII. My dad was always a smart ass, and when he got Alzheimers towards the end of his life, he was the other kind of ass. I loved my dad, but he tortured me! The other thing I love about my dad was he documented everthing. My dad liked to document many of his photos as you can see with him, the ass, and his friend. Leave it to my dad! You know this photo kind of illustrates the type of guy my dad was. . .a bit off. Even when he was old, the things that would come out of his mouth were amazing. Guess I know where I got "that" quality from. I have another picture my dad took of their platoon dog, and on the back of the photo he has the dog's foot print. My dad, what a character. I'm really grateful though that he has left me all these pieces of not only his past, his life, but of history! I hope to find the time to organize it some day and get pictures scanned, organized and burned to CD' for my kids and grandkids. These pictures and memories make us and mold us who we are today! And as I've said over and over, I just wish my mom and dad had lived long enough to see the Obama's in the White House. I know it would have warmed their hearts to see the family picture of the Obama's and the new puppy! My mom and dad were just that way, simple folks that liked and cared for people because of "who" they were as person, never about the color of their skin!

Some Old Photos of Me With My Family

That's me and my dad when I was little, in the backyard of the house that my daughter Katie, Vinnie, and Riley now live in! Of course its been re-modeled a bit!
In this picture, you find me, my grandfather (my dad's dad) and my sister Teri. We called my grandfather, get this "Daddy Dick"! To this day, I have NO idea who thought that one up? His name was Dick, but hey, no wonder I have issues! Here's a picture of me and my sister when we were younger (I was probably pinching her, and that's why she is making a face) sitting on Daddy Dick's porch (and I bet you were thinking something else, what's wrong with you people) and my grandmother who went by Nanny! This is the Missouri side of my family, maybe that's where these names came from??? Here we are at the Seal Beach pier, where we take Riley to the beach at these days. It's my sister, my mom, me, and my mom's aunt Ruby. This picture was taken in the backyard of my mom's aunt & uncle here in Long Beach of me, with my mom and dad. Here we have me and my sister. I'm the tall blonde in this photo. Now days, I'm still blonde but my sister is way taller than I am. We were playing in our backyard in our swimsuits, the same backyard that Riley plays in today. Except she has a jacuzzi! I saved my very photo for last. This picture was taken of my dad, me, and Teri at Pier Point Landing, in Long Beach. Pier Point Landing is long gone, and actually I don't even know what is there now. I LOVE the way my dad looked in this photo, so handsome!

What Are Those Photos On Your Wall?

My buddy, Malisa, over at Moonlight Hollow, always asks me, "what are those photos on your wall"? One of my friends son would take old photos, scan them, then print them on canvas and tack them onto a wooden frame. First, I want to apologize for the poor quality of these photos. For some reason I had a tough time shooting them without a glare.

Here we are in Temple, Texas and that's my mom. Not sure why she doesn't look like a happy camper, maybe they wouldn't let her drive the car!!
Here we have my three kids when they were young sitting under a Magnolia tree at my parents house. The cool thing about that tree...Katie and her husband bought my parents house after they passed away and Riley now plays under that same tree. I've posted this photo in earlier posts. My grandfather use to drive oil trucks in Temple, Texas. He is pictured below and my mom is on top of the truck! This is a picture of me and my sister with our first dog, Shad. In case you couldn't figure it out, I'm the crazy blonde on the right, still make the same faces today! This is a picture of my dad's family in Joplin, MO during the 40's. My dad is in the back on the left.
These last photo is of my and my sister. By the look on my face, since I wasn't being goofy like I always am, someone must have threatened me to behave! And for me, today and even as a child. . . "behaving" is a word that I don't include in my vocabulary because it's just no fun at all!
